DESCRIPTION:

Rare early hull from the original fiberglass production run of a true Nathanael Herreshoff design.

This is a genuinely special boat: hull No. 5 of the Herreshoff Marlin 23, built by Cape Cod Shipbuilding Co. working directly with Sidney Herreshoff to translate his father’s classic Fish Class lines into fiberglass. She carries the same 1,400 lb lead keel poured into the original Herreshoff Fish keel mold, a one-piece molded fiberglass hull, and warm sapele mahogany trim throughout.

The details:
• 23’ LOA / 16’11” LWL / 7’2” beam / 3’3” draft
• 3,000 lb displacement, 1,400 lb external lead ballast
• Electric inboard auxiliary — 8 HP, 36-volt system (quiet, clean, no fuel/exhaust smell)
• 32’ aluminum mast, roller-reefing aluminum boom
• Working sail area 248 sq ft (168 sq ft main, 109 sq ft club jib, 154 sq ft 135% genoa — all Dacron)
• Tandem-axle trailer included
• Currently in Jacksonville, FL

Condition: Overall a well-kept, sound daysailer. The bright-finished mahogany shows some fading from age and sun exposure but is solid throughout — no rot, no delamination. The boom/mast cover is worn and will need replacing. No known structural issues. A great candidate for someone who wants to bring the brightwork back to a full shine, or simply enjoy her as she sails today.
A wonderful, rare piece of Herreshoff history — perfect for daysailing, gunkholing, or classic boat shows.
