1968 Luders 33 "Northern Star" LOA: 33.00’ LWL: 24.00’ Beam: 10.00’ Draft: 5.00’ Displacement: 12,800 lb. Ballast: 4,500 lb. Built by Allied Yachts in Catskill, New York, from 1966 through 1974, the Luders 33 was designed by her namesake Bill Luders, who was not only a boatbuilder himself, but also designed such vessels as the 1964 Amercia’s Cup contender, American Eagle, and a fleet of 44’ yawls used for a long time by the US Naval Academy as training and racing platforms. It is said that the Luders 33 is one of the most popular boats of the style designed in the early 1960’s by the likes of Phil Rhodes, Carl Alberg, Olin Stephens, and Ted Hood, having moderate overhangs, modest topside height, full keels, relatively heavy displacement, pleasant sheer lines, and a raised cabin trunk with large windows providing good headroom, light, and cockpit protection.

Northern Star, with her graceful lines and dark hull, is a head turner. She's good looking below as well. She has a vee-berth cabin forward. Just aft to port is the marine head with holding tank. A hanging locker and storage drawers are directly across to starboard. The main saloon has a U-shaped dinette is to port. A starboard settee faces the dinette and can be pulled out to form a settee berth. Just above is a pilot berth. Aft of the starboard settee is the ice box whose top doubles as the chart table. The galley counter runs athwartships with the sink to port of the companionway. There is abundant storage below and even more exterior storage in the large cockpit lazarettes.Northern Star is well-equipped, well-maintained and has been continuously upgraded. She was repowered in 2018 with a remanufactured Atomic 4 which starts and runs well. The standing rigging was renewed in 2020.The hull was re-gel coated in 2020, and all through hulls were replaced except the ones for the head which were thoroughly checked and found to be sound. New running rigging was added in 2021, and a new marine head was installed. Both the holding tank and the water tank are stainless steel. A new Harken roller furler was installed in 2022. Further major additional work and upgrades have been done on Northern Star since May 2023, including: a bottom Job by KMI; replacement of all detected core damage on deck; service of the Atomic 4; stuffing box re-packed; new 3 bladed fixed prop; new exhaust lift can and exhaust hose; new house and start batteries; entire AC and DC electrical system replaced; new cabin lighting; new navigation lights; new manual and automatic bilge pumps; new pump assembly on head; new wireless wind instruments; new Anderson self-tailing winches; new large stainless steel opening portlights in cabin; new stainless steel Dorade vents on deck; new traveler system; new stainless steel lifelines; new Quantum main with stackpack: Quantum furling 124% jib; new asymmetrical spinnaker.

This vessel is a robust, upgraded classic, well suited to the winds and waves of San Francisco Bay and the coastal sailing beyond.
