General Description

I am TOO OLD for this!

Curmudgeon is a nimble performance cruiser, and many of these boats are still being raced. However, I have modified her equipment to suit our needs as aging cruisers. I have removed much of the racing gear and added a jib furler and electric windlass. A remodeled transom gate and ladder allow dinghy-level access to the cockpit.

For the variable conditions in NW WA and BC waters I keep a very small jib on the furler (although a #2 is included) and use an easily deployed drifter for sailing off the wind when it gets boring. The reefing system is newer and super easy.

I prefer to sail with minimal electronics: gear is simply a handheld GPS, depthsounder, VHF, and cockpit compass. And tons of paper charts.

This boat has taken us to Queen Charlotte Strait and the Broughton Islands several times and as far north as Hot Springs cove on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. A perfect boat for the narrow waters of the Pacific Northwest, points beautifully and moves with very little breeze.

From 2022 survey (I can send the entire survey to you at your request)

"Curmudgeon presents the appearance of a well designed fiberglass sailing vessel that is structurally sound with expected wear-and-tear from a vessel of its age. The overall impression is
that the vessel was well built and has been well maintained by the owner who has stewarded the vessel for 20 years.

Major projects have included:
● 2014 - Alexseal topsides paint,
● 2017 - Checked and tightened keelbolts as necessary,
● 2018 - New PSS dripless shaft seal, [now Norcott]
● 2018 - Replaced standing and running rigging, [repainted mast]
● 2019 - New FullRiver AGM batteries,
● 2020 - Replaced engine with new Yanmar 3YM20,
● 2020 - Repaired small leak around shaft log,
● 2021 - New Isotherm water heater,
● 2021 - Removed LPG oven & stove, replaced with 2-burner stovetop."
