DESCRIPTION:
1981 28ft Southern Cross Cutter Rigged Sailboat
Moderate displacement classic style double ender Cutter rigged Sloop with Stay Sail on self-tending boom built for blue water cruising. Internal lead ballast with 3/4 cut away keel and skeg hung rudder. Coastguard documented boat. Boat spent over 20 years in a freshwater lake in Georgia and was moved to Florida 5 years ago. Smooth running 12hp Universal Diesel with unknown hours. Hull is cleaned by professional diver monthly. Have been updating and preparing for awesome adventures, however my "crew" isn't really interested so it's time to move on.
Features and Recent Improvements include:
Engine- New exhaust elbow riser
New Water Pump
Alternator removed and refurbished
New Tachometer installed
Cabin- New Hull lining
New covers for cushions in main cabin, have additional fabric but hadn't decided to use it for cushions in v-birth or make cushions for cockpit
Very handy hanging gimbled burner very good for boiling water for coffee, soup etc. while underway
Two burner alcohol stve
Electric water pump for kitchen sink and head
Topside- New Isinglass on Dodger
New Jib Sail on roller furling
New Jib Sheet
New Staysail Sheet
New Main Sheet
Awlgrip paint approximately 3 yrs old
Main and Staysail in very good condition approximately 6-7 years old
Needs- The Bronze Spartan Seacock for the head has not been opened since I removed and cleaned the gray water tank and replaced the hose a couple of years ago, because I have not used the head, also the seacock to the engine has a slow drip when open. These should be removed and serviced the next time the boat is on the hard.
Locater in quiet and well protected marina in St. Petersburg, FL, the slip may be transferrable however you would have to speak to the DockMaster.
If you're looking for a classic styled sailboat that is capable of taking you around the world if you're so inclined or just want to coastal cruise in something that in my opinion actually looks like what a sailboat is supposed to look like, then this may be the boat for you.
