DESCRIPTION:

OH NO III was one of seventy boats crafted by Emerson Willard, who built her for his retirement. For a decade, Willard and his wife often cruised North Carolina waters and reached as far south as Sanford, Fl., along the headwaters of the St. John's River. She was laid up for years preceding his death at 104 and rescued last year by friends who pulled her from his hurricane damaged shop that threatened to fall down on top of her. Her split rig, shoal draft, mast tabernacles, fixed gas, water and wastewater holding tanks made her ideal for their solo, sound and coastal river cruising. Her hull is fiberglass reinforced marine plywood. Draft is 18" with the board up. Over the past year she has undergone an extensive refit and minor repairs. I have owned and maintained a sister to this boat built in 1980 for thirty-five years. (See photos of NEXT STEP under sail) OH NO III is in better condition than that one I bought in 1990 when she was ten years old. This is an ideal boat for anyone who appreciates a traditional rig with the capability and versatility these boats possess. This is a legacy project for me. When I met Willard in 1976, he took me out on on his 26 ft. OH NO II. That sail changed my life. He inspired me to build one that size for myself that I lived on for three years and logged over two thousand miles.
