120’ / 36.6m MEFASA Motor Yacht – CORONA DEL MAR

Built 1991 | Don Shead Design | Former Royal Yacht

Corona Del Mar is a 36.6m (120’1”) aluminum motor yacht built by MEFASA at their San Juan de Nieva shipyard and completed in 1991. Designed by Don Shead Yacht Design, with interiors by Concasa / Merritt Knowles, she was originally commissioned as the private yacht of the King of Spain, with a strong emphasis on comfort, performance, and seakeeping.

Constructed with an aluminum hull and superstructure and finished with teak decks, Corona Del Mar features a semi-displacement hull offering excellent ride quality and efficiency. She was last refitted in 2003.

Accommodation
• Sleeps up to 10 guests in 4 well-appointed suites
• Accommodations for 7 crew
• Spacious interior volume with a layout suited for private use or charter conversion

Performance & Range
• Cruising speed: approx. 11–19 knots
• Maximum speed: up to 38 knots (inspection recommended before high-speed operation)
• Range: approx. 1,000 nautical miles
• Draft: just 1.58m / 5’2”, ideal for shallow cruising and close-to-shore access

Machinery & Propulsion
• 2 × MTU 16V 538 TB93 military-spec engines
• Rated approx. 4,500 HP each
• Designed for 6,000 hours at MCR
• Twin waterjets: 85-series
• Gearboxes: 2.35:1 reduction
• Fuel capacity: approx. 61,969 liters
• Fresh water: approx. 8,706 liters

The engines underwent W-6 level work in 2004 following an incident:
• One engine shipped to Germany for rebuild
• The second rebuilt in place at Rolly Marine
• Less than 1,500 hours since W-6
• Approx. 3,500 total engine hours

Mechanically, the engines are considered low-hour for this model. However, MTU recommends replacement of age-related components (O-rings, gaskets, seals) every 10 years. A full inspection is advised, particularly if the vessel is to be operated at sustained high speeds.

Condition
• Vessel has been on the hard for approximately 2 years
• Will require:
• New batteries
• Full systems commissioning
• Cosmetic updates at owner’s discretion
• An excellent opportunity for a buyer seeking a pedigreed yacht with strong bones and significant upside

Summary

Corona Del Mar is a rare opportunity to acquire a historically significant, high-performance aluminum yacht from one of Europe’s respected shipyards. With royal provenance, proven MTU power, and generous volume, she represents strong value for an owner prepared to recommission and update her to modern standards.
