For most of her life, Trouvaille has sailed the fresh waters of Lake Michigan on a seasonal basis. This beautiful vessel is an Owner’s version which has been meticulously cared for and is in above-average condition for her age. She has been maintained in good structural, mechanical and electrical condition while also making extensive improvements. This vessel is designed for offshore sailing, capable of extended ocean passages but is also the perfect boat for local, comfortable cruising, the Great Loop, and/or full time live-aboard. We often get compliments that the boat looks fantastic for its age.
Our plan was to sail to the Caribbean, but then we found out that our little dog is allergic to the rabies vaccine, so we cannot leave the country with her. Since she is family to us, we are putting these plans on hold for a bit and have decided to sell our boat and switch to an RV so that we can travel out west with our dog instead.
We had to take the mast down to clear some fixed bridges in Chicago when we first started our journey south and had planned on shipping it south, but never did. Once we started cruising with it off, we realized that this boat is actually an extremely efficient trawler burning 1.4 gallons per hour averaging 5 nautical miles per gallon and clearing bridges as low as 13 feet! So this boat really can be used as a motor vessel or sailing vessel and we decided to leave the mast off.
Because our plans have changed since we started, the mast/rigging/sails are in storage at a marina in Chicago, and the boat is currently located in Jensen Beach, FL. We know this presents a bit of a challenge with logistics, but we have been in touch with a transport company and have some options we can discuss. If you are looking at this boat for the Great Loop, the mast will need to come down anyway for 2 of the segments, so the mast could easily be picked up in Chicago or shipped to a partner marina in Mobile, AL, amongst many other locations.
While the boat is completely operational and can be lived on and traveled on immediately, we want to be up front with everyone that there are some items that will require maintenance (listed below) and we have priced the boat to reflect this. We have a survey from 2022 that we can provide you with, and a list of upgrades and maintenance we have done to the boat over the past 3 years is listed.
We are happy to show the boat anytime, any day, as we both work remotely and can be flexible with our availability.
However, if you also desire a sea trial, we will require a non-refundable deposit to do so. If you end up purchasing the boat, we will deduct the from the total purchasing price. We are doing this simply to sort out serious buyers from those just trying to get a free boat ride.
