DESCRIPTION:
A showpiece wooden boat that turns heads anywhere it goes - stunning for both rowing and sailing. Classic lapstrake design built by Lowell’s Boat Shop, in Amesbury, Massachusetts by master boatbuilder Graham McKay. Founded in 1793, Lowell’s Boat Shop is the oldest continually operating boat shop in America, a working museum and one of the most respected names in bespoke wooden boats. They have built wooden boats for resorts like Mohonk Mountain House, for television and movie sets, as well as for celebrities including James Taylor, Tom Selleck and Michael Keaton.
A Unique Story - Moxie was a custom commission by a Board member of Lowell’s Boat Shop as a challenge project to make the most stunning small wooden sailboat, sourcing every component possible from New England traditional craftsmen. It took over a year to build by hand, with the best of every detail along the way. Constructed of cypress, locust, white oak, flamed grain mahogany, mahogany seating throughout, and teak elevated removable floor-board decking. Bottom is fully encapsulated in West Marine epoxy and fiberglass system discreetly under the bottom paint.
Traditional construction - all hand-peened copper riveted. Sailing rig is Bermuda style with a jib – spruce mast and spars from Maine and sails sewn on Nantucket. Fully encased drop-down center board and two in-deck gear cabinets, fore and aft. Bronze and brass hardware was sand-cast at the historic Amesbury foundry.
Comes with custom Shaw and Tenney oars handmade in Orono, Maine of Alaskan Sitka spruce with stitched leather chafe collars and fleece lined storage bag. Two rowing stations with one set of removable bronze oar locks.
Classic gold leaf machined lettering and hand carved nautical star details on the interior. Includes an EZ Loader trailer, which was bought new for the boat. Moxie was used on only four occasions and has been indoor garaged for the past five years. I have debated making it into a nautical bar at beach house, but I prefer that it be enjoyed on the water. Obviously, it cost much more to build than the price I am selling it for - seeking a wooden boat enthusiast who understands how special this boat is, to be its steward from here forward.
